The meaning of the film is well understood by those who know the truly thorny path in the arts of the remarkable actor Alexander Vertinsky and his difficult life. Left early without the help of his family, he earned his living as best he could. After he lived through World War I, the revolution and the Civil War, he was forced to emigrate. He toured the world. He repeatedly tried to return to his homeland but was refused. Only in 1943 Vertinsky was allowed to come to the USSR with his family. It is true that the stunning success with the public was completely ignored by the authorities. Out of more than a hundred songs in his repertoire, they allowed no more than thirty. Hardly any records were released. Concerts in Moscow and Leningrad were a rarity. The radio was not invited. The only state award - Stalin Prize (1951) for the role of Cardinal Birnch in the movie "Conspiracy of the doomed. This is not easy was his life. Especially in the homeland.
The painting was made by A. Sapozhnikov in an amazing colour scheme - soft purple.
The white Pierrot is one of Vertinsky's early stage characters. Vertinsky. He stands out as a bright spot, crucified on a cross with a crown of thorns on his forehead. There is no sense of tragedy. Rather a sadness that talented people are usually not appreciated.
