Spring Trees

A modest rural landscape. In the foreground, a group of sunlit birches, to the left are some cosy cottages. In the distance, across the river, a village spreads out. Roofs of the houses are still covered with snow. Snowdrifts are all around, the river is under the ice. But still spring can be sensed: the sky is soft blue, the trunks of the birches are creamy from the sunlight, the snow has turned grey-beige, and thawed patches have appeared near the river. 

The colour scheme used by the artist is very restrained: a small number of light blues, browns in various shades, beiges, yellows and greys from the lightest to almost black.
