Isle of Silence

The centrepiece of the painting is a coastline jutting out into the sea, with a tower at its very edge. The base of the tower is reminiscent of the roots of an old tree with a hollow at its base. A huge curved trunk with green branches rests against the wall, forming an arch through which one can see the turquoise water. In the foreground, the artist has depicted a small cove where locals fish. To the left is a secluded cave that one can enter by boat. On the right in the distance is a cape with a fantastical construction in the form of a balloon with smoke billowing from one side and a semblance of a mast with a sail on the other. The light blue of the sea almost merges on the horizon with the pastel shades of the sky. The work is made using various shades of blue, brown, green and grey, with the addition of pale pink, turquoise and sand.
