Birches
By Борис Митавскийthroughout the Russian Federation.
Size (height&width): 30*40 cm.
Year: 1985.
Style: Realism.
Techniques: Oil, Organalite.
Subject: Landscape.
In the foreground, the artist has depicted several large old birches growing along the riverbank. Autumn has taken its toll and there are only a few yellowed leaves on the branches of the birches. The wind chipped the boughs, they were folded and there was a fire that no one was going to put out. A pale smoke from smouldering embers wafts across the stunted grass. A little further away, the colourful bushes on both sides of the river are still lush and liven up the sad landscape. On the other bank a modest unpainted wooden church is visible, its colour harmonising with the leaden-grey tint of the pre-thunderstorm autumn sky. The colour palette is laconic, with some shades of green, brown, grey, blue and yellow, complemented by terracotta and milk cream.
