The painting partly illustrates a scene from Luchino Visconti's film "Rocco and His Brothers", as the characters walk on the roof of the Duomo in Milan, they are forced to part and painfully endure the moment. The painting is dominated by a melancholic colour scheme, white and bluish-grey, the pink hue can be both a reference to blood and a symbol of sunset.
