The viewer is presented with a seascape: after a storm, a small ship washed up on a rocky shore and one of the crew managed to reach an island, on top of which stands a structure with towers. The murky greenish waves in the foreground are rocking the wreckage of logs. The survivor must have used it to swim ashore. His pale figure is clearly visible at the foot of the cliff he has to climb up. Even if the island is uninhabited, he can take shelter in an abandoned building and wait for help. In the background, a wrecked ship can be seen off a neighbouring island. The storm is subsiding, the sun has peeked out, the waves reflect the sun's glare and cease to rage. The artist used various shades of grey, brown and yellow, as well as pink, creamy white and greenish blue.
