The painting shows the wharf in the wee hours of the morning. On the left, in the water, there is a pier with a red boardwalk and light railings. In the foreground, a blue boat rests upside down on the grass. A little further to the right, along the shore, rows of boats lined up for the night. In the distance two long pleasure boats with red and blue roofs bobbed on the waves. The sun has yet to appear, but it has already turned the clouds pink which are reflected in the turquoise surface of the lake. The work is made using various shades of blue, green, pink and grey; the artist has also used burgundy, lilac and cream.
