The painting depicts the smooth surface of a lake, seemingly frozen in the sunset hour. A lilac sky is reflected in the mirror of the water, turning it pink and purple, only a turquoise streak remains in the distance. The boats, chained to wooden poles, are frozen near the shore. And only a lone bird flies over the coastal thickets of lilies in the hope of getting something to eat. The work is done with various shades of blue, gray, mauve, and brown with the addition of cream and light yellow.
