Peter's Courtyard

The artist has depicted one of St Petersburg's courtyards, the courtyard façade of a residential house. The house looks very old, with the plaster falling off, which gives it a special flavour. The red brick stands out vividly against the yellow wall. The sandy-beige annex, an outbuilding of some kind, adjoins the house on the left. A dark brown door leads into the outbuilding, with two steps in front. Farther in you can see the stairs, enclosed by a lattice. A patch of blue sky with white clouds and soaring birds shines over the roofs. Yellow, sandy beige and grey are typical colours of the northern capital. For contrast and outline, the artist used a saturated dark blue.
