The artist has captured the Volga in the evening hour. The grey-lilac river surface is almost untouched by ripples. In the distance, golden lights of the other bank are reflected in the water, and the pink-lilac sky spreads over the river, with the young moon gleaming. The basic grey-mauve and pink tones of the painting contrast with the dark blue, almost black, shades and yellow strokes.
