The portrait is of a rather strange-looking man, with long black and grey shaggy hair, a dark beard, huge black eyes looking away and an open mouth, as if he were saying something. His bright red robes contrasted with the colour of his hair. A dark blue background with brown strokes provides a contrast to the entire appearance of the extraordinary man, making him stand out in an extra way. Maybe this really is a prophet, knowing ahead of time what others don't yet know. The artist worked in large, vigorous strokes, without sketching details, using various shades of grey, brown and green, as well as bright red, yellow, dark blue and pink.
