Gorokhovets

The artist has depicted a corner of the ancient town of Gorokhovets. The viewer has a view of the Sretensky Monastery, built in the 17th century by order of Patriarch Nikon. A road, surrounded by lawns, leads to the monastery, but in front of it there is a fence, and to get into the territory of the monastery, you have to go in from the back. Behind the monastery in the distance there is a large green hill, and above it a serene blue sky with fancifully shaped clouds. This painting was done using a very modest colour palette, mainly using shades of green, grey, brown and blue, with the addition of light yellow and cream.
