Captain

The work is a cross between a portrait and a caricature, in which the entire space is occupied by the figure of a naval captain with a dirk at his side. In one hand he holds a pipe and in the other sits a monkey in a bodysuit and visor. The artist used few but vivid colours: different shades of grey, brown and yellow as well as dark blue, green, blue and pink. A special feature of this painting is that the canvas has the appearance of a sail stretched over a 'rhea' frame.
